La musica di The Elder Scrolls Online è stata composta da Brad Derrick e Rik Schaffer. Jeremy Soule, compositore da lungo tempo sui giochi della saga The Elder Scrolls, ha lavorato sul tema principale. Malukah (Wikipedia), una musicista su Youtube salita alla ribalta per la sua esecuzione di "Arriva il Sangue di Drago" ("The Dragonborn Comes"), è stata invitata a scrivere e interpretare alcune delle canzoni dei bardi del gioco, così come la canzone nei riconoscimenti.

La musica del gioco segue specifici temi, in particolare le tracce sono legate a biomi, luoghi (sia grandi che piccoli) e differenti stati d'animo. Zenimax voleva che la musica fosse realmente parte del mondo di gioco, che si mescolasse armoniosamente con i suoni che circondano il giocatore. Alcune tracce di precedenti titoli compaiono nuovamente.

La colonna sonora è disponibile come "Original Game Soundtrack", che contiene tutte e 47 le tracce del gioco base, e le tracce dei DLC sono rilasciate in serie di album separati intitolati Music of Tamriel (Musica di Tamriel).

Nuovi arrangiamenti

Similarmente ai precedenti giochi, sebbene la maggior parte della colonna sonora sia nuova, alcune tracce contengono motivi che sono apparsi nei giochi precedenti.

• "For Blood, for Glory, for Honor" è la nuova versione del tema principale di The Elder Scrolls, che è apparso come "Call of Magic"/"Nerevar Rising" in Morrowind, "Reign of the Septims" in Oblivion e "Dragonborn" in Skyrim. Soule si è riferito a questa versione come "parte tema, parte atmosfera".
• La maggior parte della prima metà di "Omens in the Clouds" - come la melodia ad inizio canzone - presenta una versione rallentata del tema principale di Arena.
• "Moth, Butterfly, and Torchbug" contiene il motivo iniziale di "King and Country" da Oblivion. Compare a 4:26 in "Moth, Butterfly, and Torchbug".
• "Greenheart" ha una sezione con la melodia iniziale di "Watchman's Ease" da Oblivion, inizia a 3:26 in "Greenheart".
• "Tides of the Abecean Sea" ha un motivo che è originariamente apparso in "Reign of the Septims" di Oblivion (a 0:26) e in "Unbroken Road" di Skyrim (a 0:58). Si può sentire in "Tides of the Abecean Sea" a 4:03.
